Simon Denton – Managing Director, Sovereign UK

Simon has over 30 years’ experience and expertise in the international tax planning, trustee, corporate services, fiduciary and the market entry industry.

His career started with The Consult Group in the Principality of Andorra before joining the Gibraltar offices, the HQ of Sovereign in 1990. As MD of Sovereign Trust in Gibraltar, he served 2 terms as Chairman of the Association of Trust & Company Managers and was a member of the Gibraltar Government Financial Sector Legislation Committee. Moving to London in 1996 to establish Sovereign’s UK subsidiaries, he continues to be the Managing Director of these two companies.

Simon has been a director of The Sovereign Group, was the Chairperson of the UK Chapter of The Offshore Institute, is still the Vice President of The Royal Society of Fellows, continues to be a member of The Institute of Management, is the founder and Chairman of International Professionals Association Ltd, and is a regular lecturer and speaker at tax planning and financial services conventions throughout the world.

Shelley Wren – Head of Business Development, Portugal, Sovereign Consultoria Lda

Shelley has over thirty years’ experience in investment advisory working with high net worth investors.
Shelley works closely with Sovereign’s Wealth Management and Retirement Planning teams and is able to make recommendations according to clients’ needs and objectives to guide them through the complexities of acquiring international investment property, of using trusts, foundations, funds and companies worldwide, to structure, develop and maintain individuals’ assets for secure wealth succession planning.

In addition, and working with the Sovereign Portugal team, Shelley can advise clients on their Non Habitual Resident and Golden Visa applications to ensure maximum tax benefits for our clients.

 

Christina Hippisley – General Manager, Portuguese Chamber of Commerce for the UK

Christina became a director of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in the UK in 2006 and she has been the Chamber’s General Manager since February 2009.

After reading History at Trinity College, Cambridge, Christina started her career working for an international advertising and public relations business in London. The company then posted her to Lisbon, where she lived and worked for 10 years, in the process learning Portuguese and meeting a wide range of business contacts. After leaving the advertising agency, Christina then ran her own business in Portugal, supplying publications to the Portuguese Tourist Office in Portugal and around the world, as well as to major tourism resorts and Portugal’s biggest hotel chains.

After 10 years in Portugal, Christina sold her business to the London-based Hemming Group and returned to London. She then continued her career in magazine and book publishing back in the UK, working in senior roles at the Hemming Group, Archant Specialist Media, Virgin Books, and Merricks Media. Since 2006 she has been working once again back in the Portuguese market, firstly for an international property developer with interests in Brazil and Portugal and latterly for the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in the UK.

Christina is responsible for the Chamber’s Moving to Portugal Shows and Seminars, which are held in the UK every year and attract thousands of visitors. She also runs the Chamber’s events programme for the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Portugal, at the House of Commons.

 

Bruce Hawker – Director, Fine & Country Algarve

Bruce has lived in the Algarve for over 40 years. He has spent most of his career in the publishing business but has always had interests in real estate. He is the founding partner and CEO of the Open Media Group, publishers of newspapers and magazines in the Algarve and is also a director of Fine & Country Algarve estate agents and of the British-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce.
