Dubai Airport: Terminal 1 reopens after over a year

Dubai International Airport (DXB) reopened Terminal 1 and Concourse D on 24 June, some 15 months after it was closed on 25 March 2020 as part of the Dubai’s strategy to control the spread of Covid-19. Operations resumed with the arrival of flynas flight XY201 from the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh.

Dubai Airports operates three terminals at DXB. Over 40 international airlines will now gradually shift operations to the reopened terminal, the airport’s main facility for foreign airlines, from terminal 2 and 3. The rules aim to streamline entry procedures while following strict Covid-19 regulations.

“This move signals our confidence that the outlook for the rest of the year and beyond is one of optimism, as well as being a clear indication of Dubai’s intent to lead the aviation industry in its efforts to enable social and economic recovery of the world,” said Dubai Airports chairman Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

“This reopening is a collaborative effort of the many stakeholders involved in the operation of the world’s largest international airport and we are delighted to be able to make this important step towards the restoration of full airport operations.”
