Sovereign to bring Portugal to London in October

Requests for Portuguese citizenship jumped by 37% in 2022 and it’s not difficult to understand why – the high quality of life, the low cost of living, the safety and security, the friendliness of the Portuguese people, the climate, the culture and the beauty of the natural environment.

Portugal has long been a very popular location with Britons looking to move overseas, who make up Portugal’s second largest expat community after Brazilians. But other nationalities, including Americans, Canadians, South Africans, Germans and Dutch are also arriving in ever increasing numbers.

Portugal provides a welcoming fiscal environment, with a range of visa options and tax incentives designed to attract newcomers to the country. But navigating Portugal’s legal and administrative requirements can be complex and several key legislative changes in the areas of property purchase, rentals and visas are currently under way.

It is essential to receive the right residency, tax and pensions advice before making a move. That is why Sovereign Group is delighted to be working with the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in the UK to provide advice to registrants at its ‘Moving to Portugal Show’ at the Pestana Chelsea Bridge Hotel in London SW11 on 19 October.

The topics for discussion will include:

  • Planning your move – what to consider in advance in terms of tax and pensions
  • The legal steps to buying a property in Portugal
  • Working from home, schools and living costs in Portugal
  • Which visa option to choose?
  • How to transfer a business to Portugal
  • The latest updates on changes to the Golden Visa rules
  • Investing in property in Portugal

Wherever in the world you currently reside, Sovereign Consultoria and its partners can provide you with all the information and assistance you will need in respect of visas, permits and documentation, as well as your pre-move financial planning, to ensure a smooth transition to Portugal for you, your family or your business.

Once you have settled, Sovereign can continue to act as your fiscal representative, ensuring that your tax affairs in Portugal are dealt with efficiently and ensuring that all your tax obligations, whether local or international, are met. For further information or advice, please contact us.

Residency and Citizenship Planning Highlight

The EB-5 Immigrant Investor Programme enables high-net-worth foreign nationals and their qualifying family members to obtain a US ‘Green Card’, known officially as a ‘Permanent Resident Card’, which entitles its holder to permanently live and work in the US.

The EB-5 Immigrant Investor Programme is administered by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS). By investing a minimum of USD800,000 in an EB-5 qualifying project that creates jobs for US workers, eligible foreign nationals and their families will first receive conditional Green Cards. After an additional two years, conditional Green Cards holders are eligible for Permanent Residency.
