July’s best of list…

Best Wine – Frontuara Crianza 2004 from Toro region of Spain. This was the third bottle of the night after Vega Sicilia 1991 and 1994 and was much the best of the three wines and less than a tenth of the price of the other two bottles. It just proves you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get some great drinking.

Best Restaurant – Gambrinus, Lisbon. Very old fashioned. Main attraction is a list of 40-150 year old Madeiras which can be sampled by the glass for about Euros 15 per glass. Marvellous.

Best Book – ‘Us’ by David Nicholls, the bestselling author of One Day. Witty and amusing and good holiday trash.

Best Film – The Princess Bride. Surely one of the all-time great films. Made for children but fantastic fun for adults too.

Best Music – Walk, Dance, Talk, Sing by Crazy P. Dance music which you can chill out to.
