Sovereign Marine Services (SMS) was again in attendance at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, the 33rd edition of the prestigious event, which took place from 25th  to 28th September in the glamorous setting of Port Hercule, in the heart of the Principality of Monaco.

SMS Director Gabriel González and Sovereign Trust Malta Director Seymour Grima were among more than 35,000 yachting enthusiasts and professionals at the event, which this year showcased over 120 superyachts and 60 luxury tenders, as well as more than 550 exhibitors.

The Monaco Yacht Show brings together key players from across the industry, from naval architects and boatbuilders to equipment manufacturers, managers, brokers and service providers, who were introduced to cutting-edge innovations in maritime design, luxury and sustainability.

“Monaco and the Yacht Show were as buzzing and glamorous as ever, but what makes the show so worth it is the people you meet,” said González. “In some cases, it is the chance to meet industry colleagues in person, having worked with them remotely, which is really rewarding. The show also brings new collaborations.

“I was particularly grateful to Ivan Marcelic, the skipper of Mangusta 44 Oceano Eva4Eva, for welcoming us on board and organising a most memorable dinner. The new yacht is incredible, and it was a pleasure to finally see her afloat having worked on the project since the planning stages.

It was also a treat to visit the Mangusta shipyard stand, and we greatly enjoyed the showcase of the Mangusta 44.

“Sovereign Marine Services also greatly appreciates the long-standing relationship we have with the Gibraltar government’s Maritime Administration, in particular Diana Avellano and Dylan Cocklan, and would like to thank them for all their support in promoting Gibraltar as a key jurisdiction in the yachting sector,” he added.

The yachting industry is increasingly embracing sustainability, driven by environmental regulations, consumer demand and a commitment to ocean preservation. This year’s Monaco Yacht Show emphasises this shift, with its Sustainability Hub highlighting the latest eco-friendly technologies and practices in yachting, with yacht manufacturers and owners investing in green technologies, like alternative fuels and energy-efficient systems, and adopting sustainable practices.

Sustainability was also at the heart of this year’s Yacht Design & Innovation Hub, which offered a rare opportunity for visitors and yachtsmen to engage directly with the designers and innovators behind the most outstanding and sophisticated vessels on the water.

The Hub featured 16 acclaimed designers showcasing imaginative and innovative yacht projects that address the crucial challenge of minimising environmental impact, reflecting a transformative shift where sustainability has become an intrinsic element of yacht creation.

Combining cutting-edge engineering and pioneering, energy-efficient technologies to blend environmental responsibility with unparalleled luxury, these designers are setting new benchmarks in design, performance and navigation.

Alongside Gibraltar, Malta is now recognised as a leading super yacht destination, with over 1,000 registered superyachts larger than 24 metres, and offers owners a strong reputation, an efficient ship registry and the convenience of ship repair yards.

“With Seymour, I was able to meet The Super Yacht Industry Network – Malta team at the Monaco Yacht Show,” said González. “The aim of the network is to facilitate ship owners and captains to find the right partner in Malta through its respected ‘stamp of approval’ system.

“Membership of the network is open to those who reach stringent standards and performance is monitored to ensure those standards are maintained. So, we were both delighted to be made very welcome as new members of the network.”
