Richard Neal

Richard gained a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, before then going on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Management. He began his career in marketing and sales in 2010, before joining Sovereign Trust (SA) Ltd. in Cape Town in 2012.

Quickly assimilating a good knowledge of the trusts and corporate services sector and drawing on his prior experience in sales, Richard excelled as a Business Development Manager. In 2015, he was promoted to manage the Sovereign office in Johannesburg, joining the local board of directors the next year.

Richard returned to Cape Town in 2018 and the following year was further promoted to Managing Director of Sovereign Trust (SA) Ltd., with responsibility for managing the office and leading the South African business development team.

In 2022, Richard accepted an offer to relocate with his family to Mauritius to take over as Managing Director of Sovereign Trust (Mauritius) Ltd. He now oversees an office of over 40 staff, with oversight of all Sovereign’s administrative, accounting, compliance, legal and HR functions in Mauritius.

Richard’s passion remains advising African clients in respect of international structuring opportunities and ensuring that both their personal and corporate objectives are met.

“My time here in Mauritius has been the most challenging but rewarding of my Sovereign career to date,” says Richard. “But leading an office of this size has been made immeasurably easier by the professionalism and ‘can do’ attitude of my colleagues.”
